Dani found herself in her living room, sitting on her couch. She didn't remember falling asleep there. As she looked around the room, things felt off. It was emptier, missing all the art and posters Roxy had hung up. As she desperately searched her field of vision for the key to her foggy memory, a steady chittering sound echoed down the hallway that led to their front door. She tried to get up to see what it was, but her body was frozen. Panic settled in as the clicking grew louder. She stared at her limp body, willing it to get up, shift, do anything.

The clicking stopped. Dani took one of those deep anxiety attack breaths that Roxy made her do instead of listening to what was wrong. She barely started to exhale when something in the hall let out a groan and then a sickening, enormous crack. Wood breaking? Before she had time to think more about it her eyes began to vibrate so badly it blinded her. A deafening scuttering sound filled the tiny apartment. Something sharp and burning pierced both sides of her throat. She tried to let out a scream, but it was drowned out as her body was engulfed by something warm and wet.
